Info:
The present Hall was opened in May 1955 as a replacement for the previous timber Recreation Hut, which stood on the current site. The Hall,
which was financed by public subscription and locally held fund raising events, was originally built as a memorial to the servicemen of the area. Tillmouth
at that time was a much more heavily populated community. There are several large farms within the catchment area, and in those days they all employed a
sizeable number of farm workers, who generally had large families.
On the Heaton road, which runs beside the Tillmouth Park Hotel, there stands a
large detached house. This used to be the village school.
The old timber hut is now sited behind the fishing maintenance building on the corner of the
Berwick road and the road leading down to Twizel Station. Sadly, the station no longer exists, but the remains of the platforms are still visible, and the
rail viaduct over the river Till is accessible to walkers approximately a quarter of a mile further on, to the west of the station.
