Info:
Cornhill upon Tweed is one of the only villages in the North of
Northumberland that boasts a modern School building. Opened in November 1993 the School building is bright, light and airy with flexible working areas.
The School presently accommodates 30 pupils ages 3 – 9 years who are taught by highly qualified staff who use their specialist areas of expertise to
support the learning of all the children in the School. The School shares Head Teacher Julie Grainger with neighbouring School Norham St Ceolwulf’s First
School. This arrangement is called a Federation and was praised in the Ofsted inspection of both Schools in May 2007. The School offers toddler group
facilities to the local community on Thursday mornings.
The School is situated in a quiet area of the village away from the main road. Playing areas
both hard and grassed are extensive and very well maintained. The School has a well established wild garden area that is used to support the curriculum.
Children, Parents and the local community are working to create a School garden with raised beds and a greenhouse. The School is very aware of “green issues”
and actively supports composting, recycling and reusing wherever possible. We recently won the Local Authority competition for the School with the best idea
for reducing the number of Christmas cards sent.

What Ofsted said about us
“Cornhill First School is a good School. Standards are above average and pupils
prosper in their personal development”
“The School has a happy, supportive family atmosphere underpinned by firm but gentle encouragement and
intrinsic pastoral care.”
“Also outstanding is their sense of community, not simply within School through the work of the School Council, but through
participation in village life and links with other Schools nearby,”
