Thank you for your interest in the above cottage. We have only recently taken over this cottage as a mother/daughter venture.
The detached cottage is situated in the lovely hamlet of Wark, within the remains of Wark Castle (Order of the Garter), protected by English Heritage. The nearest shop and pub and public transportation is in Cornhill on Tweed. There is a Co-op, shops and pubs in Coldstream just 4 miles across the river where there is also an exceptional golf course in the grounds of the Hirsal, home of Lord Hume.
The cottage, on the bank of the River Tweed, stands high above the river giving panoramic views into Scotland. Enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of the scenery while watching the salmon jump and the fisherman spending a lazy day fishing (or if you prefer to fish yourself, a trout fishing permit can be obtained at the Cornhill P.O. and salmon fishing can be arranged in advance through the local agent who represents the owners of the beats of the Tweed). Watch swans flying by at eye level, heron, ducks, pheasants and the numerous varieties of birds that share Wark.
The stone built cottage was an old byre (barn) completely renovated to the highest level and converted into a holiday cottage. The cottage is clean, cosy and comfortable with carpets and good quality furniture. All linen and duvets are provided but please bring your own towels and toilet paper.
There is a good-sized Living room with a full double sized hideaway wall bed and a comfortable sofa. There is a dining table and chairs with the window looking out over the Tweed. There is also a coffee table that opens to reveal storage for extra bedding, and bedside tables and lamps. There is a chest of drawers and two fitted wardrobes with plenty of space for clothes, an ironing board and iron plus a remote control TV/DVD player. There is a CD player/clock/radio. There is one double radiator.
The shower room has a shower, sink and toilet, a razor socket with light and extractor fan. The towel rail is above the radiator. There is plenty of shelving space for your toiletries.
The kitchen has a built in electric hob and cooker, fridge and washing machine. There is a microwave, toaster, kettle, pots, pans, crockery and cutlery. Next to the radiator is a small breakfast bar. There is also a fire extinguisher; and a smoke alarm in the passage. Parking is to the front of the cottage and a chest freezer in the boiler house. The secluded patio, for guests only, is behind the cottage with seating to enjoy the view across the River into Scotland. There is also a patio to the front of the cottage for guests.
There is a conservatory, which is south facing. It consists of a comfortable three-seater bed settee. There is a standard lamp, rocker chair, bench with storage for extra bedding, coffee table, and a radiator. There is a dividing door to the living room providing two separate rooms for sleeping.
Wark is ideally situated for all types of holidays whether it be peace and tranquillity, activity holidays, walking, hiking, golf, fishing, bird watching, cycling, horseback riding or just visiting the many tourist attractions in the area, not to mention the beautiful beaches and heritage coastlines, the many castles, historic houses and woollen mills in Scotland and England and the hills and valley of the nearby Cheviot Hills.
Wark is midway between Edinburgh and Newcastle. The lovely old market and coastal town of Berwick-upon-Tweed is approximately 13 miles east of Wark off the A1. Eyemouth is a busy, quaint little fishing village just north of Berwick both worth a visit. Holy Island and Bamburgh are just down the A1 from Berwick, both renowned for their charm, castles and beautiful sandy beaches.
The beautiful Scottish town of Kelso with its Abbey and woollen mill outlets (7 miles west of Wark) is the site of Floors Castle, home of the Duke and Duchess of Roxburgh.
There is no end of ‘olde worlde’ country pubs around Wark offering excellent food, local caught fish both lunch and evening and no restrictions on children.
Should you be interested in booking the cottage and sampling the delights of the Scottish Borders and Northumberland please do not hesitate to contact me.
NO SMOKING IN PREMISES. Maximum - three people (or 2 + a baby)
Pets are very welcome with responsible owners. There is an enclosed garden for dogs otherwise dogs must be restrained on the other grounds due to the wildlife and to “Jasper’s Aviary “of injured birds. Also there are country walks as well as the Riverbank.
