Following the publication of the Parish Plan in 2006 the Parish Council proposed that it initially focus on the economy of the parish.  The primary economic driver is tourism.  The parish has a significant number of businesses which depend upon tourism; the intention of this initial initiative was to assist tourism through the provision of information, promotion and the creation of additional tools which enhance the tourist offer in the parish.

A secondary, but equally important outcome of this initiative was to provide a pack of information which will welcome all new residents to our community when they move to their new homes in the parish.

What the Parish Council agreed to produce was a visitor pack and the commissioning of a website for the village which included descriptions of a series of walks emanating from the village, descriptions of the history of the village and its immediate environs, brochures produced by the various businesses in the village:  the village shop, post office and café, the Collingwood Arms Hotel, the Tillmouth Park Hotel, St Helen’s Church and Donaldson’s Lodge church and their calendars, the village halls and their programmes of activities, the Old Mill and the Old School House Bed and Breakfast accommodation, Cornhill First School, Rickerby the agricultural engineers, other small businesses and the various self catering cottages.

All these sources would also be available on the village website either as imbedded reference sources or through links to their respective websites, and links to other relevant websites.

To realise these ambitions the Parish Council required funding.  An application was made to Community Action Northumberland to seek a grant from the North Northumberland Leader Gold Small Grants Scheme.  Grant approval was received early in March, 2008.

The Parish Council immediately established a working group drawn from members of the community to work with the successful bidder for the work, Fantasy Prints of Berwick, to develop the website and promotional materials.

During the initial two years of the management of the website and the promotional materials the costs will be sustained by the grant and initial funding.  Thereafter funding will result from advertising and subscription from local businesses.
